August 16, 2022—The Florence Copper Community Foundation (“Foundation”) is pleased to donate $500 to the United Way of Pinal County, supporting their Reading 3rd Grade Initiative – a program that promotes childhood literacy in Pinal County.
United Way of Pinal County CEO Allen Villalobos and Development & Marketing Manager Joseph Caruso visited the Florence Copper site on July 11, 2022, to receive the donation. The Reading 3rd Grade Initiative partners with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to deliver books to newborns to children five years old who live in Pinal County. The Foundation’s donation will sponsor the purchase of 240 books.
“The United Way of Pinal County is very thankful for the contribution from the Florence Copper Community Foundation,” said Mr. Caruso. “Ninety percent of a child’s brain develops by age 5, and currently only 25 percent of Pinal County third graders are reading proficiently. The Reading by 3rd Grade Initiative is designed to prepare children to enter kindergarten with literary comprehension so they do not fall behind in school.”
