Florence Copper Community Foundation Awards Grant to Preserve Florence History

September 2, 2022—The Florence Copper Community Foundation awarded a grant of $1,200 to the Pinal County Historical Society on September 1, 2022. The award will support repairs to the Pinal County Historical Museum’s blacksmith shop exhibit celebrating Alex Gay, Florence’s blacksmith from the mid-1890s to the 1950s.

The award was presented during the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce’s First Thursday Mixer held at the museum. The grant ensures that the Pinal County Historical Museum can fund repairs to the blacksmith shop, which needs roof repairs and a new door to protect artifacts from weather damage.

"I sincerely thank the Florence Copper Community Foundation for supporting repairs to the Alex Gay Blacksmith Shop in our outdoor display area,” said Pinal County Historical Museum Executive Director Stephanie Joyner. “This funding allows PCHM to share the treasurers that bring Florence’s rich history to life."

Since 2014, the Florence Copper Community Foundation has awarded over $73,000 to local nonprofits. To learn more about how you can support the Pinal County Historical Museum, visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pchsmuseum1.
