Florence Copper Inc. is pleased to announce the receipt of a temporary Aquifer Protection Permit (APP) from the state of Arizona’s Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). The APP allows the Company to operate its Production Test Facility (PTF) for up to two years to demonstrate the safety and economics of in-situ copper recovery at its site.
This permit authorizes the construction, operation and closure of a 24-well in-situ copper recovery (ISCR) operation at Florence Copper’s project site in Florence. The ISCR injection and recovery well system will be accompanied by a state-of-the-art solvent extraction/electrowinning (SX/EW) facility that will produce up to 99.999% pure copper cathode sheets.
“Florence Copper is looking forward to demonstrating the benefits of in-situ copper recovery,” said Dan Johnson, Florence Copper’s vice president and general manager. “It represents a safe and environmentally responsible means of extracting copper in Arizona.”
Florence Copper must receive one more permit from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) before it can begin the PTF.
